Two big things:
1. Formula 1 announced their new car for next year, and the gist of the situation there is that currently, it’s very hard to catch up to someone ahead of you because of the way air flows off the back of cars, but with the new car, they’re making it easier to get right up on someone’s tail.
2. In the NASCAR Cup Series, Harrison Burton is replacing Matt DiBenedetto in the 21 car next year, with Brad Keselowski’s move to Roush Fenway (Roush Fenway-Keselowski) official, Austin Cindric sliding into the 2, and Burton taking what would have been Cindric’s spot in the 21 but was then on the table as still DiBenedetto’s spot when the Keselowski news started coming out a couple months or so ago. We’ll see if DiBenedetto can find himself a Cup ride elsewhere. Kevin Rutherford made a compelling-enough case for DiBenedetto in the 38, but that’s just speculation.
Now, this weekend’s schedule. IndyCar is off. NASCAR Trucks are off ‘til August.
Friday
Nothing.
Saturday
NASCAR Xfinity Series: Ambetter Get Vaccinated 200
Where: New Hampshire Motor Speedway (short track, just a mile long, I think it’s rather flat)
When: 3:00 PM EDT
Broadcast: NBCSN
SRX: The Finale (my name not theirs)
Where: Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway (short track, as all the SRX tracks are, asphalt)
When: 8:00 PM EDT
Broadcast: CBS
No big storylines I’m aware of with the Xfinity race, but in the SRX race Chase Elliott is racing against Bill Elliott as the two ringers while Tony Stewart tries to wrap up the championship, so that’s fun.
Sunday
Formula 1: Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix 2021
Where: Silverstone Circuit (historic circuit, I believe, located between London and Birmingham in Northamptonshire)
When: 10:00 AM EDT
Broadcast: ESPN
NASCAR Cup Series: Foxwoods Resort Casino 301
Where: New Hampshire Motor Speedway
When: 3:00 PM EDT
Broadcast: NBCSN
Previews for these two Sunday morning.
