Let’s start off by clearing something up.
Elon Musk has billions of dollars.
That’s pretty weird.
Not a lot of us have billions of dollars.
So if we’re going with the definition of weird that’s just, “unusual,” yeah, Elon Musk is weird.
But he’s not as weird as we make him out to be.
Elon Musk smokes pot. He likes memes. He is willing to risk the lives of others for his own personal convenience. I mean, yes, he was born extremely wealthy and he got wealthier by founding a startup and then he made a few more startups, some of which are doing things like trying to send people to Mars and revolutionize transportation here on Earth, but we don’t talk about that stuff when we talk about how weird Elon Musk is. We talk about the memes. We talk about dogecoin.
To be fair, naming that child whatever he named that child was legitimately weird, and that was talked about ad nauseum. But the other stuff? I have a lot of friends who do all of those things.
Sure, it’s unusual that he’s a billionaire doing all the things he does. Mike Bloomberg would never, etc. But Mike Bloomberg’s pretty weird. Have you heard Mike Bloomberg talk? If you’d never seen Mike Bloomberg’s face and you watched him interact at your buddy’s house party, you’d think Mike Bloomberg was a weird dude. Elon Musk? Ehh. There’d probably be another guy there talking about how we should name a satellite after dogecoin. If your brain was wiped of Elon Musk knowledge and you met Elon Musk without a lot of hubbub, you would not remember meeting Elon Musk.
So cut it out with the “oOh ElOn MuSk’S sO wEiRd” stuff.
He’s not that weird.
Not that much weirder than the rest of us.
