Duke’s on the Right Side of the Bubble

It’s official.

Duke’s in our latest NIT Bracketology.

What does this mean?

Well, it means Duke’s current projected finish by our computer is one that would earn them an NIT bid.

It also means the NIT could get its highest ratings in years.

Keep the faith.

Other notes for today:

  • We got a question from a reader about where Oregon State falls after their victory over Oregon on Saturday. The answer is evidently: 40 or 50 places beyond the NIT bubble. Yikes. Did not remember that they’d lost to Washington State. And Wyoming. And Portland.
  • We wondered if Kentucky’s win Saturday would be enough to get them back close to the projected field. The answer is evidently: Sort of. The Wildcats are the current projected sixth team out (with Mississippi, Davidson, TCU, Northwestern, and Dayton between them and Memphis, our current last team in).
  • The new projected one-seeds are all mid-majors, if you consider Drake a mid-major and not a low-major. VCU, SMU, and Western Kentucky (Big Red!) join the Bulldogs on the top line.
  • Potential rivalry matchups, from the latest bracket: Providence at Syracuse. Pitt at Penn State. Wofford at Duke.
  • Rutgers broke its losing streak, losing the game of chicken with themselves and exiting our projected field.
  • Not a lot going on tonight. Unless Syracuse beats Virginia, or Oklahoma State somehow loses to an Iowa State team that hasn’t played in two weeks, or Utah State loses at UNLV. In which case there will be a lot going on tonight.
