It’s May 15th. The Ides of May. When Julius Caesar’s lesser-known cousin got put in the river for gambling debts.
And the Dodgers have only the third-best offense in baseball (by wRC+).
This isn’t good for a World Series defender. Third place? Gotta be first place if you want to win the World Series.
A lot of the problem is that Cody Bellinger’s been out with a mildly broken leg. Joe Kelly didn’t break it. Let’s make that clear. Joe Kelly did not break Cody Bellinger’s leg. Maybe when Cody Bellinger’s back from the leg that Joe Kelly did not break, the Dodgers offense will get humming.
But maybe, just maybe, they don’t need Cody Bellinger.
Maybe they need Joe Kelly.
Let’s look at the facts:
- Joe Kelly is a professional athlete.
- Most major league hitters are professional athletes.
- Joe Kelly played center field in college.
- There are a lot of teams who would love having a chance to throw baseballs at Joe Kelly.
- HBP? OBP. (Sorry that just means getting hit means you get on base.)
- It would get *headlines* if the Dodgers put Joe Kelly in the outfield.
Seems like it’s at least worth a shot.
