Do We Talk About Captcha Enough?

You know those Captcha things where they make you prove you aren’t a robot by clicking on pictures?

I’m not sure we talk about them enough.

For one thing, why is this specific exercise so difficult for robots, when robots can do things like disrupt our elections, vacuum our floors, and win the American League MVP award in 2014 and 2016?

For another, why is this specific exercise so difficult for me? Because these things are hard.

I do not know what Captcha’s definition of a crosswalk is.

I do not know whether buses and trucks count as cars.

It is hard to tell what constitutes a hill.

It is sometimes tricky to figure out if something’s a bridge (also, I definitely forget that overpasses are bridges—sue me).

Anyway, just wanted this in the public discourse, and now it is there. Mission accomplished.
