At the end of last season, David Bote was named the National League Rookie of the Year.
By us.
And nobody else.
I exploited a loophole in the voting, but the result stands. David Bote is the reigning National League Rookie of the Year.
We sent him this trophy.
Since we didn’t have his address (¯\_(ツ)_/¯), we just sent it to Wrigley Field.
We got a tracking confirmation saying it arrived, but we haven’t heard anything yet indicating he’s received the award. Which is fair. The Cubs’ first home game was Monday, and players probably have a lot of fan mail to go through from the offseason.
I’m still a little concerned, though. Because until David Bote gets that trophy, David Bote doesn’t know that he’s the Rookie of the Year. He still thinks it’s Ronald Acuña (that’s who won the BBWAA version, right? It wasn’t Juan Soto?).
So, David Bote, or anyone who knows him, if you’re out there reading this, can you let us know when you’ve received the trophy? We’d hate to have to get another one made, and we’d hate even more for you to live your life without the knowledge that you were named the 2018 National League Rookie of the Year.
