Developing: Joe Kelly to the Injured List (Probably Covid)

UPDATE:

Based on the pregame comments from Dave Roberts…it is most likely Covid (private medical information cannot be divulged by the team). We’ll have more tomorrow.

Well this isn’t good.

Hopefully it’s just one of those roster moves to get him some rest, but given his shoulder history, given that his hamstring was bugging him recently, given that the delta variant is going around, there are legitimate potential causes.

He’s on the 10-day IL, according to the Dodgers’ transactions page, as opposed to the Covid IL, but he’s also not listed there with a reason, which might point towards Covid. Corey Knebel, who takes Kelly’s roster spot, was on the 60-day IL and it doesn’t appear the Dodgers had any openings on their 40-man roster, implying Kelly’s not on the 10-day IL (if you’re on the 60-day IL or the Covid IL, you aren’t on the 40-man; if you’re on the 10-day IL, you’re on the 40-man) and the transactions page is wrong.

So, in addition to keeping an eye out for Joe Kelly news, we’ll be keeping an eye out for other Dodgers roster moves, especially those involving the 40-man squad. The Dodgers play in Philadelphia tonight at 7:05 PM EDT, so hopefully we get some news pregame, and most importantly, hopefully the guy’s ok.
