Dammit, Burnley

Ouch.

The Result:

Southampton 3, Burnley 2

How It Happened:

Burnley was rolling. Up 2-0. But just a few minutes after the second goal, they let Southampton back in it, and by halftime it was tied. A second-half goal later, and Burnley went from pretty much sealing themselves into another season in the Premier League to being probably safe, but only probably safe.

What It Means:

With Brighton set to visit Manchester United later today, the table now looks like this (18th is where relegation starts):

15. Burnley: 33 points, 30 matches played
16. Brighton: 32 points, 29 matches played
17. Newcastle: 29 points, 30 matches played
18. Fulham: 26 points, 31 matches played
19. West Brom: 21 points, 30 matches played20. Sheffield United: 14 points, 30 matches played

Again, Burnley’s probably safe, but with a win they would’ve been up to 13th in the table, at least momentarily, with 12th potentially just a point away. Eight matches left.

Other News:

Erik Pieters got hurt. Didn’t see much more than that he left with an injury.

General Thoughts:

I hope my dog and the neighbor’s cat get along down the road. They haven’t met yet. Trying to wait ‘til it could be a good first impression. Miss hanging out with that cat.

Burnley Thoughts:

Brutal. Could really use a win on Sunday now. That could put the magic number of points down into the single digits.
