College Football’s NIT’s Will Be Played on New Year’s Eve, Where They Belong

College football’s bowl schedule was announced last week, and only four games will be played on New Year’s Eve. Two of them are the eternal options for the designation as college football’s NIT.

At 11:00 AM EST (yes, you read that right, we’re going early morning with this), middling foes from the ACC and SEC will square off in Jacksonville in a football game that would already have heavy NIT undertones even if it wasn’t sponsored by TaxSlayer. At 12:30 PM EST (still morning, because that’s 10:30 AM in El Paso), another middling team from the ACC will play someone from the Pac-12 (automatically middling) in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, which contrary to its name tends to be among the coldest bowls around. Remember: Tony the Tiger loves milk. Remember: El Paso. Remember: Mediocrity but not straight-up badness. Again, NIT magic.

It’s a Friday, and again, it’s New Year’s Eve, so you’ll probably be off work anyway, but make sure you’ve got the whole day, since the middle of it’s the most important part. I, for one, will be hooting and hollering.
