Burnley’s got a new center back.
That, and all the other news of the week:
Nathan Collins
It’s official. 20-year-old Irishman Nathan Collins is a Claret, bought from Stoke City for at least £12M and possibly more. Burnley’s announced it. It’s official. Praise be to ALK Capital (now let’s splash a few more dimes on that ol’ table).
Sean Dyche
Dyche’s extension is still not official, but there haven’t been any reports casting doubt on its inevitability. Stay tuned.
Nat Phillips
In other center back news, Burnley’s in the mix for Liverpool defender Nat Phillips. The price is reportedly £15M, but that’s rather preliminary, and with Brighton evidently also in the mix, I’d guess it could go up?
Vydra at Euros
Matěj Vydra’s gotten more minutes for the Czech Republic but has yet to score the dramatic, continent-shaking goal we all know is coming from the striker.
The Czechs’ next game is Sunday morning at 11:00 AM Texas Time. They’ll be playing the Netherlands in the Round of 16.
Partner Clubs
Cobh Ramblers lost last weekend to Treaty United, dropping them back to ninth in the table, seven points out of playoff territory with more than half the season to go. They’ll host last-place Wexford on Saturday.
Ayr United plays a preseason game on Tuesday.
Llandudno is three games into their seven-game preseason slate, but I haven’t seen their results aside from knowing they lost the second. Next one’s on Saturday against Flint Town United, who plays in the highest Welsh tier.
