Burnley’s Offseason Is (Almost) Over

Nine days ‘til Burnley reopens EPL play. Time flies when you’re blogging about baseball.

Transfers, Sean Dyche Extension

No news.

Friendlies

Jay Rodriguez scored the winner as Burnley took down Newcastle United 1-0 behind closed doors this week. Fun one against Cádiz (La Liga) this weekend.

Injuries

Per Sean Dyche, “Popey is on the way back – and there is Kevin Long and Dale Stephens missing – but generally people are fit and well.” No official word on whether Matěj Vydra and/or Chris Wood will need to miss a little early-season time after expending their legs in international play this summer.

Burnley FC Women

Burnley FC Women (third tier) beat Liverpool Feds (fourth tier) in a friendly this week. They open play on Sunday the 15th against Sheffield FC Women on the road.

Partner Clubs

Cobh Ramblers (Ireland, second tier, seventh place of ten) next play on Saturday against sixth-place Athlone Town. Perhaps more significantly for Burnley, the U19’s are in first place in their group.

Ayr United (Scotland, second tier) lost their season opener to Kilmarnock, 2-0, as I believe was expected.

Portadown (Northern Ireland, first tier) had a friendly scheduled last night against Rathfriland (location and tier unknown—easy to find out, but unknown). It was canceled. Next one’s Saturday against Dollingstown (third tier) on the road.

Llandudno (Wales, second tier) hosts Connah’s Quay (first tier, defending champions) tomorrow in the second round (the round of 32) of the Welsh League Cup.
