Burnleys in the Wild

The European part of 2022 World Cup Qualifying starts today, and Burnley has six players on rosters, scattered around the continent:

  • Robbie Brady and Kevin Long are rostered for Ireland, with each a substitute in the soon-to-kick-off match with Serbia.
  • Matěj Vydra is a substitute for the Czech Republic in the soon-to-kick-off match with Estonia.
  • Bailey Peacock-Farrell is rostered for Northern Ireland, and I think is the starting goalkeeper. They play at Italy tomorrow.
  • Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson is on the Iceland roster and appears expected to start in tomorrow’s trip to Germany.
  • And last but far from least, Nick Pope is expected to get the start in goal for England with Jordan Pickford out. The Three Lions host San Marino at Wembley Stadium.

Matches are on ESPN+ with the exception of the Czech Republic’s, which is on ESPN3 in a few minutes here, and Iceland’s, which is on ESPN2 tomorrow at 2:45 PM American Central Daylight Time.
