Burnley’s Got a Schedule

They announced this coming season’s EPL schedule, so let’s do a Burnley roundup:

The Schedule

Burnley will play each opponent twice, once home and once away. No plot twist there. The season starts on August 14th (or thereabouts—television may have a say), with Brighton traveling to Turf Moor. Here’s the full version (using this one because it has both Cup Final dates and we’re about optimism over here as far as Burnley’s concerned).

Two thoughts. Err. Three thoughts.

The first is: Does Burnley play an EFL Cup game in that first slot? Because I’m seeing that that week’s just the first round, and Burnley enters in the second round. Mostly wondering because that seems like a season opener of its own, in a way, and I don’t want to miss it. Don’t want to miss the friendlies, but really don’t want to accidentally miss an EFL Cup game. Swamp type!

The second is: Brentford, Norwich City, and Watford got promoted and I don’t think we ever mentioned it! Welcome, friends. Norwich City and Watford were in the league back in 2019-20, so there’s a reason we aren’t fans of each of them. Brentford? No history there for us. They’re a cool story, but at the same time, they’re just another London and/or suburban London team. They can’t capture the hearts of all of Britain (and one half of a duplex in Austin, Texas) the way Burnley can.

The third is: This is a relief. Feel like it’s always scary until you actually get the schedule. What if the Premier League was like, “Nah, we’ve had enough of you, Burnley, we’re putting out a 19-team schedule this year.”? That would be sad. This? This is happy. Relievingly happy. Burnley’s on the schedule.

Sean Dyche News

Still no extension and I mean could they hurry up another pandemic could break out at any minute.

Transfer News

There was a brief rise in the plot where it looked like Burnley was going to sign veteran Ashley Young, most recently of Inter Milan, but now it sounds he’s going to Aston Villa. Beyond that, or in addition to that, I suppose, nothing’s happened yet. Nathan Collins is still a target, with Burnley reportedly making a new offer to Stoke City for the defender.

Internationals

Matěj Vydra got some minutes in the Czech Republic’s defeat of Scotland. Didn’t score, but that’s coming. That’s on its way. Next match is Friday against Croatia.

Partner Clubs

Cobh Ramblers knocked off UCD up in Dublin last Friday and are now up to eighth in the ten-team table. They’ll host Limerick’s Treaty United on Saturday.

Llandudno FC’s schedule has been released for Cymru North. They’ll open on July 24th.

Didn’t see anything big for Ayr United or Portadown FC.
