Well, New Zealand didn’t win this morning, and Burnley’s gold medal hopes are thus dashed.
Olympics
Chris Wood made his penalty kick, but it wasn’t enough. 4-2 in pen’s after a scoreless 120 minutes.
On the bright side, Wood returns to Burnley a little sooner this way, I think. I assume that’s the case. But it might not make a difference, too, since it’s only a few days or a week, max.
Transfers, Sean Dyche Extension
Just rumors in the transfer wing of things, no announcement still of the Dyche extension. Josh Benson has officially left, signing with Barnsley (Championship).
Friendlies
The lads beat Tranmere Rovers (League Two) today on the road, 2-1, with Nick Pope still out following his offseason knee surgery. Think there’s one other this week before Cádiz (La Liga) comes to town on Saturday.
Partner Clubs
Cobh Ramblers (Ireland, second tier) pulled off a draw up in Dublin against league-leading Shelbourne yesterday. Up to seventh place now, though the promotion playoff gap widened with Bray Wanderers winning. That gap stands at eight points with ten matches to play and the lads next in action on Saturday against sixth-place Athlone Town, whom our guys trail by three points in the table.
Ayr United (Scotland, second tier) opens league play on Monday against Kilmarnock on the road. Ayr’s next Scottish League Cup match has been set for August 14th.
Portadown (Northern Ireland, first tier) drew with Knockbreda (second tier) in a friendly yesterday. Not sure what’s up next. Might be a friendly over in Dollingstown (third tier) on Saturday.
Llandudno (Wales, second tier) beat Llanrhaeadr earlier today on the road, 3-1, leaving themselves near the middle of the table through three matches. They’ll host Connah’s Quay (first tier, defending champions) in the second round of the Welsh League Cup (not the Welsh Cup, which is also ongoing) on Friday. The second round in that cup is the round of 32.
