Well, I watched some soccer. About eight minutes of it. First soccer I’ve watched since 2018. And what a glorious eight minutes of the free NBC trial stream it was. The Burnleys did it.
Obviously, I have no idea what happened, but my impression is that Nick Pope—the keeper—is the new King of England. That’s how this works, right? Also confused about how Burnley scored and got another chance close enough to hit the bar in the closing minutes, but there are some things we can never understand, I suppose.
More scoreboard-watching ensues, something we at The Barking Crow had no expectation of doing when we began blogging about the Burnleys. Later today, we want Chelsea to beat Sheffield to keep Burnley one point back of seventh. Tomorrow, we want Everton to beat Wolverhampton, or at least draw with them, to keep sixth two or three points away. I think Tottenham and Arsenal drawing would be best tomorrow, to keep each of them within a point of our lads? And on Monday, of course, we want to find out Man City is still banned from European play this coming season.
As for Bertie and the boys, they host Wolverhampton on Wednesday before traveling to relegated Norwich next weekend. Then, the following weekend, a visit from probably-safe-from-relegation-but-on-that-side-of-things Brighton. To be clear, they’re still not in Europa League position. But the draw today helped.
