Yes, you may have noticed that I thought Burnley played Saturday, not today. I am evidently quite bad at reading Burnley’s schedule. I blame the YAHOO SPORTS APP™.
Whom:
Burnley at West Bromwich Albion
What:
Burnley’s fourth Premier League match. West Brom’s fifth. Remember, Burnley’s played one fewer than most of these cats. Two, really. IT’S NOT AS BAD AS IT LOOKS.
Where:
The Hawthorns, which is evidently West Brom’s pitch and not its nickname, much to my confusion.
When:
11:30 AM American Central Daylight Time
How to Watch:
Peacock Premium again. Evidently you also have to pay to stream it in England. Is the media trying to keep Burnley down??
What’s at Stake:
Burnley’s in last place. Alone. Yes, the weekend’s scheduling combined with the Man U postponement last month have a role to play in this, but Burnley also just hasn’t won yet, or even tied, and they played Southampton at home and Newcastle on the road, so they’d probably have four points by now if they were playing adequately competitively for Europa League contention (the real goal here). Burnley would take a point, but really needs a win. Relegation isn’t impossible.
The Odds:
The YAHOO SPORTS APP™ says our lads are underdogs. Against West Brom (even I know this is bad). West Brom at +140 to win. Burnley at +200 to win. Draw at +230.
The Opponent:
West Bromwich Albion. The Baggies (plastic or paper, I’m not sure, but I’m setting my high school buddy who posts Instagram stories about eco-fascism against them to find out). Newly re-promoted from the Championship League. Drew Chelsea a few weeks back for their only point so far. From near Birmingham (the British one, not the Alabaman one).
Transfer Window News:
It’s been a while. The transfer window closed. Burnley didn’t really do anything. People are unhappy about it. I don’t feel like I have the right to be unhappy about it because I started blogging about Burnley as a joke a year ago, but I’m privately unhappy about it. I want that Europa League berth. I want it badly.
Other News:
Jay Rodriguez seems somewhat likely to return. Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson might have a groin issue after the international break, so I guess he’s questionable. Ben Mee, Jack Cork, and Matt Lowton are all out, and there are probably still a few others I’m missing. In sum, the Clarets are banged up still, but it’s getting at least a little bit better. Nothing new on the ALK Capital sale.
Bertie News:
With coronavirus cases rising on both sides of the pond, we can only hope that Bertie is taking appropriate precautions.
