Burnley Tries Again

Burnley is here to…to do something. Hopefully a good thing.

Whom:

Burnley vs. Brighton & Hove Albion (yes, both of them)

What:

Yet another battle with the threatening forces of doomful relegation. In short, a Premier League match.

Where:

Amex Stadium. Brighton getting those reward points out here.

When:

11:30 AM American Central Standard Time

How to Watch:

Streaming on Peacock. Bawk bawk. That’s the sound peacocks make. Actually do peacocks make a little purring/cooing noise? Is their only noise the ruffling of their feathers? I would like an explanation from someone who knows peacocks.

What’s at Stake:

Burnley’s back to last in the table, but they’ve played one fewer tilt than most. A win would pull the lads past West Brom and Sheffield United in points, one step closer to getting out of the relegation zone. A draw would leave ‘em behind West Brom, but at least back ahead of Sheffield.

The Odds:

The YAHOO SPORTS APP™, with help from BetMGM, has Brighton at -112 as this is typed, Burnley at +325, and a draw at +250. Meaning there’s about a 50% chance Brighton wins, and then somewhere around a 27% or 28% chance of a draw, and about a 22% or 23% chance Burnley wins. Not great.

The Opponent:

Brighton & Hove Albion. Colloquially, Brighton. They’ve got it good down there on the coast. Well, I don’t know that. But it sounds like the Brits like to go on down there on holiday. I don’t get the impression anyone is going to Burnley on holiday. Except me. I would like to one day visit Burnley on holiday. For me it would be called vacation, because I’m American, but I might call it holiday to others. Just to get in the spirit of things.

Brighton isn’t great. Currently 16th in the league, with a win (over Newcastle) and two draws (against Crystal Palace and West Brom). They also have two red cards already, tied for the most in the league, and they’re without their captain, Lewis Dunk, who got a red card against…Crystal Palace?…and is still suspended from it. (Do all red cards come with three-match suspensions? And teams play a man down for the rest of the match and then the whole next match, right?)

That said, they’ve been better than Burnley’s been. And it should be noted that they’re referred to as the Seagulls.

Burnley News:

Ben Mee could be back. Others are still out.

Bertie News:

Not a thing. And with the coronavirus raging, unlikely we’ll see much of our favorite bee anytime soon.
