It’s the last match of the season for old Burnley, which means it could be the last match as Burnleyers for a number of Burnleyers. I have no idea how contracts work in soccer—whether they’re multiyear or that kind of thing—but I do think I’ve seen posts come up about Dwight McNeil getting a big payday from another club when I’ve googled “Burnley” prior to writing these last few Burnley blog posts, and I’ve also seen one or two say similar things about Sean Dyche. So, this may be the last ninety minutes for a number of Bertie’s beloved lads, and if it is, well, what a year it’s been.
I’ll spare the written montage of how Burnley came to capture the hearts and minds of an entire species, but please know that it would’ve been a good one. You would’ve said, “Wow.”
There’s little to be played for today—Burnley’s possible outcomes range from eighth in the table to tenth—but, you know, everyone wants to end the season a winner, and the visit from Brighton gives our lads their chance.
Burnley on, friends.
One more time (until September).
