Burnley: Still Capable of Winning

They did it, folks. Now the lid’s off.

The Result:

Burnley 4, Rochdale 1

How It Happened:

Rochdale actually took the lead early in the second half, but then Jay Rodriguez scored four times in a row off a variety of feeds from the lads, and Burnley walked away a winner once more.

What It Means:

Burnley’s through to the EFL Cup’s Round of 16, which will be played the last week of October. The draw should be happening fairly soon here, as in, today.

What’s Next:

Back to league play, with a trip to Leicester on the docket this Saturday.

Other News:

Maxwel Cornet played, and evidently played ferociously (and quite happily, according to photographic evidence). Nick Pope was in net, which is a bit out of character for Sean Dyche but makes sense after Pope spent the international round on the bench for England.

Thoughts:

Yes, it’s the lesser cup, no, cups aren’t that big of a deal, no, Burnley doesn’t have a great chance of making much more noise in it. One of probably twelve Premier League clubs left, Burnley has a good chance of being an underdog against a much deeper squad. But they could also draw, say, Southampton, or one of the non-EPL teams. And if they do…who knows. Maybe we could get a little bit of chaos. Better to advance than not. Always better to advance than not.
