Which cup is this which cup is this which cup is this EFL CUP TIME FOLKS THAT’S THE CARABAO ONE SWAMP-TYPE PEOPLE WE’RE TALKING SWAMP-TYPE.
Whom:
Burnley vs. Rochdale A.F.C.
What:
EFL Cup, Round of 32
Where:
Turf Moor
When:
2:45 PM EDT
How to Watch:
Don’t think it’s on television here in America.
What’s at Stake:
The longer you stay in these cups, the more money you make, so while Burnley’s chance of winning one and reaching European play that way is extremely small, and the money piece is also likely very small, it’s not meaningless. Pride-wise, you want to beat the League Two side.
The Odds:
I’m seeing Burnley at -315 to win, Rochdale at +893, and a draw at +460, implying better than a 75% chance of Burnley advancing (it goes to PK’s if there’s a draw).
Burnley Squad:
It should be a reserve squad, though Maxwel Cornet is likely to play as he continues to acclimate to the Burnley club. Not a bad opportunity to see what some of the depth can do, especially on finishing opportunities, which has been such an issue so far for the Clarets.
The Opponent:
Rochdale, a neighbor to Burnley and old rival in the pre-promotion days, plays in League Two, where they’re currently in eighth place of the 24 teams, and are rated by FiveThirtyEight to be the sixth-best squad.
Other Burnley News:
There was a scrap between Arsenal fans and Burnley fans after the final whistle on Saturday. The FA is investigating. I haven’t seen reports of any injuries, but that stand will be closed today.
Burnley FC Women:
The women’s team returns to play on Sunday.
Partner Clubs:
Cobh Ramblers (Ireland, second tier) return to play on Saturday.
Ayr United (Scotland, second tier) has been kicked out of the Scottish Challenge Cup for playing ineligible players in the last round. Their next match is Saturday, and it’s a league one.
Portadown (Northern Ireland, first tier) next plays on Saturday.
Llandudno (Wales, second tier) is off for the rest of the month.
