Burnley Marches On

Hot stays hot.

The Result:

Burnley 3, Fulham 0

How It Happened:

Both sides were playing a lot of reserves, but Burnley’s reserves were evidently better? Not sure exactly, but seemed rather dominant. Jay Rodriguez scored twice.

What It Means:

Burnley’s on to the FA Cup’s Fifth Round Proper, in which sixteen teams remain. They’re still a longshot to win the cup and get into the Europa League (at the moment, I think it’s ten teams left in the competition who outpace Burnley in the EPL table, soon to be nine when Man U and Liverpool are done), but they’ll be favored in their next one, in which they’ll host either Bournemouth (sixth in the Championship right now) or Crawley Town (twelfth in League Two). That match will be sometime around February 9th. Weekday game.

What’s Next:

Back to EPL play. Aston Villa comes to town on Wednesday.

Other News:

Didn’t see anything major. It was snowy in London, so that’s fun.

General Thoughts:

I wonder if the FA Cup has a FAQ section on its website. Or an FAFAQ section.

Burnley Thoughts:

It seems like the scoring was in good part a function of Fulham’s defense, but it still stood out how easy the goals came. I don’t know enough to know if Rodriguez and Matěj Vydra should be playing more, but that lineup did get the Clarets three goals, which is the most the team’s scored since a friendly back in September.
