Kind of due for one of these.
The Result:
Chelsea 2, Burnley 0
How It Happened:
Burnley just couldn’t get anything going on the scoring end. Held Chelsea off fairly well each half, but at the end of the first the Blues put one in the net, and towards the end of the second it happened again as Burnley began trying to make something happen.
What It Means:
With Brighton upsetting Tottenham, Burnley’s now just one point up on 17th, though still eight points up on 18th, where relegation begins. Tight pack from 14th-17th: Wolverhampton’s just a point up on Burnley, and Newcastle’s only ahead of the lads on goal differential.
What’s Next:
Man City. Wednesday. Ruh roh.
At Turf Moor, though.
Other News:
Ashley Barnes was still out, as were Charlie Taylor and Josh Brownhill. Jack Cork replaced Brownhill in the starting lineup.
Chris Wood went down with a hamstring injury, presumably meaning we’ll see Jay Rodriguez and Matěj Vydra together on Wednesday. Vydra did start in place of Barnes, satiating the masses (though the wins had already satiated them a good bit).
General Thoughts:
The sun’s pretty nuts when you think about it.
Burnley Thoughts:
Not great, but not that unexpected. Nice to have built the cushion they’ve built. Glad to get Brighton on Saturday after the Man City match. Hopefully take advantage of that one, assuming no magic is pulled off against the Cityzens.
