Most of the time, Burnley does pretty good, and then I look at those numbers that say how good Burnley should have done—expected goals and all that—and the numbers say Burnley shouldn’t have done that good. And I say, hmm, those numbers must not capture the uniquely clever approach with which Sean Dyche has taken over the game of footie. Today, Burnley didn’t do that good. But the numbers said they should’ve done really good. So I don’t know how to feel.
The Result:
Burnley 1, Brighton 1
How It Happened:
Burnley took a lot of shots. Especially for Burnley. But Brighton was the first to score, making Burnley come from behind, and while they did come from behind (Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson put one in the net early in the second half), they didn’t come all the way back.
What It Means:
With Newcastle beating Southampton and Fulham drawing with West Ham, Burnley’s firmly in 17th, and still eight points up on the relegation zone.
What’s Next:
In EPL play, Burnley plays at Crystal Palace on Saturday, but first they’ve got the old FA Cup, round number five, at Turf Moor on Tuesday against Bournemouth.
Other News:
Ashley Barnes was back, so that’s good.
General Thoughts:
I wonder when the flu will come back. Hopefully never. You know?
Burnley Thoughts: Still eight points clear, which is good, but at the same time, would’ve been nice to make that ten.
