We have gathered once more in the common interest of Burnley—our friends, our allies, and our favorite bee’s favorite footie club.
Whom:
Burnley vs. Tottenham Hotspur
What:
Another Premier League match.
Where:
Turf Moor. Terror for the Spurs.
When:
3:00 PM American Central Daylight Time
How to Watch:
Peacock Premium. It’s a streaming world out there now, folks.
What’s at Stake:
Burnley is technically no longer in last place, holding a better goal differential than Sheffield United and Fulham, but they’re still in the relegation zone. Yes, some of this is ostensibly due to having played one fewer match than the norm. But Burnley’s still in a troublesome spot. A point and a West Brom loss, or a win and a West Brom loss or draw (or a West Brom victory by three or four), and our lads would be out of 18th place and up into the teams-in-danger-of-falling-into-18th-place zone. A loss, and Burnley would either drop to even with Sheffield or roll right past them for 19th.
It’s early to be talking relegation, but I’m concerned, ok?
The Odds:
The YAHOO SPORTS APP™, which says its feeding from BetMGM, has Burnley to win at +500, Spurs to win at -189, and a draw at +333, implying about a 10-15% chance Burnley wins, somewhere around a 60-65% chance Burnley loses, and roughly a 25-30% chance of a draw. So, 35%-40% chance of points, which is what we’re after here.
The Opponent:
Tottenham Hotspur. You know who they are. More importantly, I know who they are, which means they’re usually pretty good. Win would vault them to fifth in the table.
Burnley News:
Not Burnley news exactly, but Gareth Bale is newly back with Tottenham after spending the last seven years in leagues other than the EPL. On the Burnley side, Matt Lowton might come back, as could Phil Bardsley and Erik Pieters? Unclear. Ben Mee and Jack Cork are still out.
Bertie News:
We hear nothing about Bertie. They give us nothing about Bertie.
