The Disco Inferno: A Road Show Once More™
The Result:
Burnley 0 (4), Newcastle 0 (3)
How It Happened:
Wayne Hennessey played a great game in what was, besides him, an ugly performance all around. Just the way Burnley and Newcastle like their Carabao Cups.
What It Means:
Burnley drew Rochdale (League Two) after the Clarets’ rivals from a while back took down Shrewsbury (League One) 2-0 in Shrewsbury. That match will be a mid-week affair the week of September 21st, and it’ll take place at Burnley. Round of 32. 18 EPL clubs remain.
What’s Next:
Back to league play. Leeds visits on Sunday.
Other News:
Aaron Lennon is back with the Clarets, signed out of free agency. Nathan Collins made his debut.
It’s unclear if Matěj Vydra will play for the Czech Republic in the upcoming round of World Cup qualifiers, possibly due to his…is it a groin injury? Am I remembering that right? Nick Pope did get the call for England, so it’s him for England, Hennessey for Wales, Bailey Peacock-Farrell (out on loan) for Northern Ireland, Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson for Iceland, and newcomer Collins for Ireland.
Burnley FC Women took a second loss, 2-0 to Fylde. They have three points through three matches, eighth in the 13-team table on a points-per-match basis. They’ll play at Derby County (three points in two matches) on Sunday.
Thoughts:
Better to keep winning in these things than to lose in ‘em. More money, chance of European play stays alive, more chances for the young guns. Good stuff all around.
