Burnley Is Playing in Something Called a Cup Today and It Sounds Easy

Evidently British soccer involves a lot of cups. Which means that when someone becomes a fan of a team in the Premier League for the sake of content, they unwittingly become a fan of a team in a bunch of cups.

Or at least two.

Based on what Wikipedia is reporting, there’s something called the FA Cup and something called the League Cup. The FA Cup won’t affect my beloved Burnleys until the “Third Round Proper,” which is the same as the third round of any other tournament except that everyone is a bit more polite (or at least more cunning in their insults). That doesn’t happen until January.

But the League Cup happens today.

Yes, today Burnley hosts a group of people referring to themselves as Sunderland. Sunderland evidently got relegated in back-to-back years not too long ago, which means they were Burnley’s peer in 2016, but are now two leagues below the Clarets (look, I called them the right thing!).

Anyway, my impression is that Sunderland is not particularly good, whereas #BritainsTeam is the best on either side of any ocean. So today should be a cakewalk for the Bees. If they do advance, they’ll play in the Third Round (unlike the FA Cup, there is nothing proper about the League Cup, which is evidently a no-holds-barred barrage of rude behavior). But the amazing thing about the Third Round is nobody knows when it is.

So enjoy the League Cup while it’s here, and while Burnley is, as the good bard would say, dog walking Sunderland.

Buzz buzz.
