Burnley Goes Quietly into the Offseason

There’s something to be said for having a complete letdown after clinching the avoidance of disaster.

The Result:

Sheffield United 1, Burnley 0

How It Happened:

Burnley just never broke through despite escalating attempts to do so after Sheffield United opened and closed the scoring in the first half. Four strikers at the end. No goals.

What It Means:

Burnley finishes the season in 17th place.

What’s Next:

The offseason.

Other News:

Nick Pope is going to have minor knee surgery. I believe it’s tomorrow. It sounds like some cartilage needs to be cleaned up. Unclear if he’ll be ready to go for the Euros.

Ben Mee missed the match with a groin injury.

Partner Clubs:

Cobh Ramblers lost to Athlone Town, keeping the lads in ninth in the table in the early going. Portadown plays Dungannon Swifts tomorrow. I believe they’re safe from relegation but I’m not positive.

Thoughts:

We’ll see what the offseason holds. The headlines are that Dyche wants some investment in talent, and that ownership wants to extend Dyche. The Dyche-to-Crystal Palace rumors are still rumbling away. Lot to come, or a little to come, but a little would be a lot by being the absence of a lot.
