We’re cupping.
Whom:
Burnley vs. Bournemouth
What:
FA Cup, Fifth Round (the Round of 16)
Where:
Turf Moor
When:
11:30 AM American Central Standard Time
How to Watch:
ESPN+. Boooooo! (but a unique boo this time)
What’s at Stake:
It’s been 18 years since Burnley made the FA Cup quarterfinals. Also, pretty sure they make some money by moving along. Not sure if it’s a lot, but pretty sure it’s money. Also also, winning keeps the Europa League dream alive.
The Odds:
I’m seeing Burnley at -155 to advance and Bournemouth at +115. So roughly 57% chance Burnley moves on.
The Opponent:
Bournemouth. The Cherries.
Down on the south coast, the Cherries were an EPL club as recently as last season. Currently, they’re sixth in the Championship tier. In other words, they’re not a pushover, as that 57% number above implies, but they’re also worse than almost all teams Burnley’s playing these days.
Burnley News:
Chris Wood, Charlie Taylor, Josh Brownhill, and Robbie Brady are all still uncertain, and Jack Cork’s name’s been added to that list. There’s also the chance Sean Dyche will rest some guys (which is another part of why the 57% number is as low as it is), since staying in the Premier League’s still the focus and Burnley isn’t out of the woods in that quest.
Bertie News:
Nothing. Lying in wait.
