Burnley Did Not Win Me Ice Cream

Lost the ice cream bet.

The Result:

West Ham 1, Burnley 0

How It Happened:

West Ham grabbed a quick lead when Burnley botched a clearance, and from there, the Clarets couldn’t do anything on the scoring end. Pretty straightforward one. Didn’t sound as vigorous as the effort against Man U.

What It Means:

It’s disappointing to not come out with a point, especially with Brighton beating Leeds. The lads are now a point behind the Brightons for 16th, with Fulham four points back of Burnley in the topmost relegation spot. On the bright side of things, Burnley’s got two games in hand compared to Brighton. On the trepidatious side of things, Burnley’s next four EPL matches are rather tough: Liverpool, Villa, Chelsea, Man City. At least they get Villa at home.

What’s Next:

On Thursday, Burnley goes to Liverpool.

Other News:

Didn’t see anything new on injuries, but Alan Pace has the coronavirus, so that’s no good.

General Thoughts:

Did people just get really sunburned all the time in the days before sunscreen?

Burnley Thoughts:

I am no expert, but I would guess Burnley wants to be scoring more goals, which makes me hope they come up with a way to score more goals. Are Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes the problem? Is it midfield play? Is it something of both? Interesting that now that the team’s healthy we’re seeing so many late-minute Matěj Vydra and Jay Rodriguez substitutions. I know the Vydra thing’s half a meme at this point, but as someone who doesn’t know what’s happening, I am curious about starting one or both of the pair.
