Well, I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t figure out a way Italy winning the Euros (are they called that?) made Burnley the best club in Europe. I tried, and even the things that obviously didn’t make sense weren’t close enough to making sense to publish on a blog known for nonsense.
Maybe in 2024.
A Transfer Market Rumor
Dwight McNeil to Aston Villa, which isn’t new but got some buzz in the Burnley Express last weekend. As with the other rumors, my impression is to assume it won’t happen.
No Sean Dyche Extension Announcement Yet
That said, Sean Dyche’s extension has still not been announced, and I still assume that’s happening, so we’ll see.
They Signed Another U23
Harry Williams. Former West Brom guy.
Burnley FC Women
The women will play Celtic FC in Glasgow on Sunday in their first friendly. Burnley FC Women play in the FA Women’s National League’s Northern Premier Division, which is a long way of saying they’re at the third tier.
Partner Clubs
Cobh Ramblers lost to Galway on Friday, 2-0, dropping eight points back of promotion playoff territory as they sit in eighth place. Fifteen matches down, twelve matches left, no formal relegation system so I don’t think that’s a risk.
Ayr United evidently opened Scottish League Cup play Saturday, not tomorrow as we thought. Whoops! They lost in penalties to Albion Rovers, a fourth-tier club (two tiers down from the Honest Men). They do get a point for that, with Albion getting two points. They’ll host Edinburgh City, another fourth-tier club, tomorrow in the second of four group play matches. Albion Rovers will play Falkirk (third-tier), who lost their opener to Hamilton Academial (newly second-tier). Ayr needs to either win the group or be one of the top three (of eight) runners up to advance to the knockout stage. Not looking great.
Nothing new on Portadown or Llandudno, which doesn’t mean nothing happened but does mean I looked and didn’t see anything.
