Bona NIT

I learned this a few weeks ago, and I’ve been waiting for the right moment to share it with you all.

In Catalan—that not-really-Spanish language they speak in Barcelona—when they say good night to one another, they say it, “bona nit.”

And I just think that’s really beautiful.

Other notes today:

  • Drake got a big one over Loyola in overtime. Not sure what exactly this means for the Bulldogs, but my guess is they’re still projected to lose a couple more and land in our grasp, with this putting them closer to the top of the field. More importantly, this pulls the Ramblers down towards us. Very real chance of a two-bid MVC. Potentially both on the top line.
  • Georgia Tech did away with Pitt in Atlanta. Jeff Capel’s mojo has evaporated.
  • No change of pace in Newark—Seton Hall beat Marquette in a game in the 50’s. Love to see it.
  • Notre Dame took care of business against Miami. Nikola Djogo—the man Notre Dame recruited because he was friends with Thon Maker who has since then had flashes of effectiveness interspersed with stretches of unexplained absence, and who always looks vaguely confused—led the charge, and he is evidently one of the most successful offensive players in the country this year? Amazing.
  • Penn State lost to Nebraska. At home. This is an efficient loss. It doesn’t crush their W-L record, because it counts the same as losing to a good team, but it does a ton to pull them out of that other tournament. Well done, Penn State. You’ve learned the lessons of 2019.
  • Not a lot going on tonight, but if you’re just interested in bad basketball and you have Pac-12 Networks (there are multiple), you can watch Washington play at Wazzu. There’s also some SWACtion: Jackson State, tied for the lead league, is in action against favored Texas Southern.

Bona NIT, friends.
