Here’s the deal.
We haven’t commented publicly on this bracket because it’s a terrible bracket. The people who made it did an awful job (evidence to come). It doesn’t deserve our attention.
But.
Big Red’s in the Final Four of a bracket of mascots on Twitter, and you all deserve to know.
The full (ish) story:
Some clowns (who will not be named here; they deserve no engagement from this and only scorn) made a bracket of college mascots. They made some laughable mistakes. They also made some that can’t be laughed at. Like assigning Big Red, the greatest mascot thing man hath created, a 16-seed. I won’t enumerate the other foibles (no free clout), but they were bad too. Just not as insulting as the Big Red seeding. Thankfully, voters understand mascots, and voters have Big Red in the Final Four, where I think he’s facing the Sooner Schooner in a hilarious example of voters saving bracket-makers from themselves. If Big Red wins, it appears likely he’ll have to deal with the BYU Cougar, who probably has a name and is of course also doing well as a 16-seed because BYU has a massive following, especially among people who care enough about their school to vote in mascot brackets on Twitter. At this point, I should note that Big Red has not been advancing because of Western Kentucky fans. Big Red has been advancing because of Big Red fans. Big Red transcends school.
We won’t be linking to the account doing the polls (we have too much self-respect to do that), but we will give you Big Red’s victory celebration from tonight, so you can get at the polls tomorrow (and hopefully Saturday) through his account:
P.S. Someone in the replies today said Big Red is a hill, and I am now curious as to whether Big Red is supposed to be a hill. Would explain a lot, oddly enough.
