Baseball’s Newest Bubba

I was keeping an eye on the Royals game last night, since Joe had it in his Best Bets for the day, when I noticed the existence of Bubba Starling.

If you’ve followed baseball extremely closely for quite a while, you know that Bubba Starling was the fifth overall pick in 2011. If you don’t follow baseball at that level of closeness, though, or you weren’t doing so in 2011, you, like me, might just be happy that there’s a Bubba in the major leagues.

And what a Bubba he is.

He looks exactly like you’d expect Bubba Starling to look, and he’s from Gardner, Kansas, just a little closer to a suburb than you’d hope his hometown would be. He must not have panned out initially as a prospect, because he’s only just now breaking into the big-leagues, but he’s here, and we can all be excited about that.

By the looks of it, he’s not the best power guy out there, which is disappointing for those, like me, hoping he’d just hit a ton of dingers. But he’s still 6’4”, and since coming up over the All-Star Break, he’s done well (hitting .308, one home run in ten games).

Hopefully he sticks around. At the very least, though baseball has a Bubba. Which is something we can all celebrate.
