Bangers IV: Quarterfinal Voting

Eight bangers. Some of the best these brackets have ever enjoyed. An all-star team right down to the inclusion of All Star.

You have all voted well.

Voting is open for the Bangers IV Quarterfinals. Results from the Round of 16 are below. As we’ve been saying, our one rule here with voting is to be cool. Which means? Don’t spam the votes. If you’re wondering if you’re breaking the rule, you’re probably breaking it, and we’ll probably end up outvoting your votes and telling Mark Hoppus what you did.

We want to share a little bit of history on the eight remaining bangers, but before that:

Here’s the link to our Instagram, where voting is live in our stories.

Here’s the link to the Google Form, for those who prefer it or are creeped out enough by Mark Zuckerberg to not use his products.

Voting will be open on Instagram until the stories expire, and votes on the Google Form will be accepted if they’re submitted prior to Friday, April 22nd at 8:30 AM EDT.

We’re planning to have the Quarterfinal results up sometime this weekend, so check back for those. Semifinal voting is currently scheduled for Monday.

Here’s the link to the playlist, with the eight quarterfinalists at the front of it.

One twist with these bangers is that all of them have history with us. Let’s run through what that history is.

All The Small Things lost in the championship of the 90s Bangers Bracket by eight votes, narrowly defeated by a song later on this list.

Everytime We Touch won the 2000s Bangers Bracket, but the victory was obscured by controversy, with Mr. Darkside breaking the one rule and casting well over one thousand votes, some of which were paid for on Instagram. From what we could verify, Everytime We Touch was the deserving winner, but the song has always been viewed with a bit of an asterisk. Can Cascada’s greatest (maybe only) hit prove itself again? It only escaped Sugar We’re Goin Down by two votes in that year’s semifinals, and it only beat Bye Bye Bye by three votes in the quarters, and even in the round of 16 it didn’t blow Lose Yourself out of the water. Maybe it’s got a high floor thanks to an ardent fanbase. Maybe that fanbase includes the villainous Mr. Darkside.

What’s My Age Again? is having a huge couple weeks, having missed the quarterfinals of the 90s Bangers Bracket three years back. It was eliminated by Wonderwall in a close one after taking out Barbie Girl and Baby Got Back. Wonderwall went on to lose to I Want It That Way in the next round.

All Star made the 90s Bangers Bracket semifinals, but it was blown out once there by Semi-Charmed Life. Part of this was that a Third Eye Blind fan page on Twitter was retweeting the polls, but it wasn’t all of it. All Star didn’t show up.

Mr. Brightside, of course, was the target of Mr. Darkside in the 2000s Bangers Bracket, ultimately falling in the championship after surviving a first round attack (five thousand votes were cast for Drops of Jupiter, which is a good song but a stretch to label a banger) and crushing the competition over the next four votes. In votes in which Mr. Darkside has not participated, Mr. Brightside is undefeated all time.

Semi-Charmed Life was the 90s Bangers Bracket champion, taking down All The Small Things in the championship. Are we on our way to a rematch?

Call Me Maybe won Bangers III (2010–2014), blowing out I Love It in the championship and not really facing anyone close the whole tournament.

Party In The U.S.A. was eliminated in the 2000s Bangers Bracket second round, losing by five votes to Oops!…I Did It Again. Oops was ultimately knocked out in the quarterfinals that year by Sk8er Boi, losing by a single vote.

Of the eight, then, six have appeared in a final four and five have made the championship vote. The only championship appearer to not make it this far is I Love It. Bangers III felt strong at the time, but in hindsight, that time slot being only a five-year period did it no favors.
