Au Revoir, CIT

The Basketball Classic, previously known as the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament and most widely called the CIT, is no more. Per Ethan Hennessy at Happening Hoops, there will be no 2023 CIT. It was a rough go in 2022—they tried not having a bracket, but rather than giving them great matchups this created roughshod chaos—and it turns out that was the finale in the latest attempted existent postseason college basketball tournament. Forever it will lie alongside the Vegas 16.

The CBI does still exist, but below the NIT, it’s the only one. Is this a bad omen? Are the sharks of economic fate snapping up brackets below our feet? I say nay. I say this only goes to show how impressive it is that the NIT has survived in the midst of NCAA occupation. And credit to the CBI as well.

Our condolences to the CIT and all who loved it. You might not have been a good tournament. But that doesn’t mean you weren’t a great one.
