Aston Villa Can’t Handle the Inferno

Wow. Wow! WOW!!!!

The Result:

Burnley 3, Aston Villa 2

How It Happened:

So I was sitting here (here at my computer), and I was like, “Maybe I’ll sign up for a Peacock free trial,” but then I was like, “Nahh, I’m pretty busy today, I’m gonna save that for another time because I bet it’s only easy to do it once.” And then I was sitting here, and I was checking Burnley’s Twitter page periodically, and I saw Aston Villa had scored. And I was like, “Damn, hope we don’t go into another drought from this.” But then I refreshed it again a while later, and Burnley’s Twitter page was like, “Hey Stu, Ben Mee scored!” And I was like, “Ben Mee?!” And the Twitter page was like, “Ben Mee!” And I was like, “The Skipper?!” (because I always capitalize “The Skipper” in my internally imagined dialogue with Twitter pages) and the Twitter page was like, “the skipper!” (because the Twitter page doesn’t capitalize “the skipper” in my internally imagined dialogue with Twitter pages)

So I’m sitting there a bit more, and the Twitter page goes, “Hey Stu, bad news.” And I said, “Grealish?” And the Twitter page is all, “Yeah. That fucker.” And I was like, “Hey, no need for the language, but yeah. Fuck.” And the Twitter page was like, “Yeah. Fuck.” But then a few minutes later, I see another account on the main feed saying Dwight McNeil’s tied it up, so I go back to Burnley’s page and they’re all, “Dwight McNeil scored!” So I’m sitting there like, “Well this is good. Hold ‘em off, lads.” But then I refresh it again and it’s all, “GOALALAOAOLAOALALALLLAO” or something like that and it turns out Chris Wood put the lads ahead.

And they made it count.

What It Means:

Burnley’s within a point of Wolverhampton and Crystal Palace, who are in 13th and 14th respectively (the Wanderers tied Chelsea today—good prank on Chelsea if you ask me). Clear of Newcastle by three. Clear of Brighton by two or four or five. Clear of relegation by seven or nine or ten.

What’s Next:

Chelsea. Sunday morning. Chelsea’s got a new manager. Ripe for the picking.

Other News:

Ashley Barnes didn’t play. Hurt. Nick Pope was evidently very good, especially at the end of the first half keeping the deficit from growing to two.

General Thoughts:

None. My mind is full of only Burnley.

Burnley Thoughts:

What a win. What a comeback. What a turnaround. Relegation looks unlikely. The top half of the table’s only seven points away. And Burnley’s got a game in hand on a few of the teams between them and there. Keep on doing what you’re doing, Burnleys.

Hope Sunday morning’s game’s on TV.
