A Yu Darvish Fan Learns Japanese: Lesson Three

Today’s game is important for the Cubs. I am nervous. And I am channeling that nervous energy into something productive: learning Japanese so I can read Yu Darvish’s tweets and respond without relying solely on Google Translate.

I love Yu Darvish. Enough that this is my third Japanese lesson on his behalf.

The lesson went smoothly. More consonants: this time the d, t, and n sounds. I’m up to 32 or 33 hiragana characters now on the little sheet I’m writing these all on.

But the “mm” and “nn” characters on the website I’m using seem to be the same. So, if anyone knows what’s going on with those, let me know—I’m a bit confused.

Anyway, ready for Yu Darvish to dominate tonight. Soon I’ll even be able to sound out what he’s saying on Twitter. Won’t be able to know what it means yet, but that will come. He’s got a long contract.
