Joe Kelly gave up an earned run last night.
But who cares about that?
With the division in the bag, Kelly’s latest outing was a tune-up for a grander competition: the Division Series (it’s grander because it has an additional word, and that word is “Series”). And he looked good.
Three strikeouts. One walk. One hit. Timing turned the latter pair into the aforementioned run (he walked Hanser Alberto to begin the frame, wild pitched him to second, then allowed a two-strike single to Dwight Smith Jr. to bring Alberto home), but more times than not, three strikeouts/a ball in play/a walk will be a scoreless frame.
These remain exciting times.
