A Burnleyer Scored in International Play

Extend Sean Dyche you bastards (sorry, I don’t mean that, I’m just nervous).

Internationals

Bailey Peacock-Farrell made three saves as Northern Ireland managed a scoreless draw against Switzerland, keeping themselves within three points of the Swiss for second place in Group C with four matches to play.

Wales and Estonia also played to a scoreless draw, but no Burnleyers made it on the pitch for the Welsh. It was a disappointing result for Wales, who trails the Czech Republic on goal differential for second place in Group E, but does have one more match remaining than the Czechs.

Jordan Pickford allowed a stoppage time goal to Poland as England’s perfect streak in qualifying was ruined. Should have played Nick Pope, guys. Should’ve played Pope.

Iceland got rocked by Germany and is near elimination in Group J. Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson did play, but was subbed out sometime between the third and fourth German goal.

Hey, Matěj Vydra scored! Wow. Hadn’t gotten to that one yet. The Burnley striker put one home in stoppage time to get the Czech Republic a draw in their friendly with Ukraine. Good note to end the round on.

Burnley FC Women

The women’s team is off until the 26th.

Partner Clubs

Cobh Ramblers (Ireland, second tier) visit Wexford Youths tomorrow. Wexford’s last in the table, ten points behind our guys.

Ayr United (Scotland, second tier) lost on Tuesday in a game marked by three red cards, two of which went to Ayr and all of which came after the scoring was done. Big game Saturday for Ayr as they host Dunfermline Athletic, the only other team in the league right now with only one point.

Portadown (Northern Ireland, first tier) hosts Linfield on Saturday in what’s just Linfield’s second match of the campaign while Portadown’s on number four. As is the case with Ayr, our guys are trying to stay out of last place.

Llandudno (Wales, second tier) beat Gresford on Tuesday. They sit at third in the table (fourth by points per match) entering Saturday’s trip to Penrhyncoch, who’s down in ninth in the 16-team division.

Other News

Maxwel Cornet might debut on Monday, but he did get a “dead leg” in international play. Nathan Collins’s injury doesn’t sound to be serious, and Connor Roberts and Kevin Long are getting close to being game-ready themselves. Doesn’t sound like we’ll necessarily see any of them against Everton, but it’s hard to know. That match is Monday.
