A firm, decisive triumph, by a surprisingly large margin. This is a major flip from 2020, when Semi-Charmed Life won the same matchup by one of our narrower margins. Have preferences changed? Has the electorate changed? There is no way to know.
The decisiveness of the championship really affected The People’s Rankings, as did My Own Worst Enemy’s string of close victories. The way The People’s Rankings work is that they compare songs based on the song to which they lost and the amount by which they lost. So, because You Oughta Know gave My Own Worst Enemy a close finish, and because My Own Worst Enemy hung in there with Semi-Charmed Life, You Oughta Know climbs all the way to fourth in this bracket’s People’s Rankings. Music critics, take note. The market is craving more from the Joey Gladstone revenge genre.
