600 big ones. The Coca-Cola 600.
Where It Is
Charlotte Motor Speedway. Mile and a half. Which somehow becomes more exciting if you just drive on it for hours longer than the other mile and a half tracks. This is 100% the case, and 100% confusing when you think about it for very long. I do not understand.
When It Is
Green flag at 6:23 PM EDT.
How to Watch
FOX
Who to Watch
Kyle Larson’s the favorite at +375, followed by Chase Elliott at +500, Martin Truex Jr. at +550, Kyle Busch at +700, Denny Hamlin at +900, and then it gets thick.
How NASCAR Should Script It
I mean, it was really fun that one time when Casey Mears won on fuel mileage. I wouldn’t personally mind something like that. Also, was that the year Brian Vickers’s car had the red wheels? That was cool. Anyway it feels like a good night for a wildcard, the best of which would probably be Matt DiBenedetto. Get that man his victory, lock him into the playoffs (unless, you know, too many winners), we love that guy.
Trucks, Xfinity
John Hunter Nemechek got another win Friday night after doing this late in the race:
Also, this happened to Johnny Sauter’s truck after NASCAR waited too long to wave a yellow flag for the 14 truck getting in the wall:
Ty Gibbs got another win in the Xfinity Series.
NASCAR News
This is unusual! We have news! There are rumors that Brad Keselowski’s going to switch to the number 6 car next year, which would leave Ryan Newman looking for a ride and heightens intrigue about Keselowski’s relationship with Penske, Penske’s relationship with Keselowski, and some Keselowski/Logano bad blood?? I hope the latter is the core of it. I’m ready for Keselowski to become Logano’s nemesis.
There’s also a report that Kurt Busch is the leading candidate to join Bubba Wallace at 23XI Racing when that team—Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s team—expands next year. Maybe Newman goes to the 1 car? Long way to go on all that.
hell yah.
