Today’s Best Bets: The Mets Are Still a Contender

Mixed results yesterday, but our Phillies NL East futures cashed out, so we’ve got a little more cash flow than we had. We should have our NFL futures for the week tomorrow, and potentiall college as well. (If we don’t, we should have both on Thursday.)

In the meantime, our daily baseball moneylines, plus our latest MLB futures.

Anaheim at Milwaukee

Heat Index lost last night for the first time in a week. New ones today with the bigger board. Its first choice is the Brewers.

Pick: Milwaukee to win –260. 5.25 units to win 2.02. Dana and Peralta must start.

Seattle at Kansas City

Its second choice is the Mariners, as much as we hate betting against Michael Wacha. Also: Is there a mnemonic for telling the Mariners’ young starters apart? I can never remember which one is which.

Pick: Seattle to win –133. 2.69 units to win 2.02. Gilbert and Wacha must start.

NLCS

There are plenty of reasons to be skeptical about the Mets, starting with the fact that they only lead the 6th Wild Card race by a game and a half and they don’t own all the tiebreakers. At the same time, only the Dodgers and Yankees have better rosters than these guys. We’ll take the value.

Pick: New York to win +1100. 4.00 units to win 44.00.

I am only roughly 90% confident in these numbers. At some point we’ll get that Google Sheet up which tracks all our bets this year.

2025–26: –487.60 units (started with 1,000-unit bankroll)

2025–26: –7% average ROI (weighted by unit; sample size: 748 single-game markets plus three completed futures portfolios and one partly completed futures portfolio)

Pre-2025: 0% average ROI (worse when limited to only sports)

Units taken from best odds we can find at major sportsbooks available to most Americans.
