Today’s Best Bets: The Braves on Paper, the Braves on the Field

Another good day yesterday. No futures today because of 4th of July travel, but we’ll do an extra set on Saturday to make up for it.

Anaheim at Atlanta

The Braves are better on paper, but they’re not better than many teams on the field right now, and while José Soriano’s been allowing harder contact, it’s come in exchange for more strikeouts. We like Anaheim to take the series. At least at this price.

Pick: Anaheim to win +131. 4.88 units to win 6.39. Soriano and Elder must start.

Cleveland at Chicago (NL)

The Guardians are scratching Luis Ortiz and going with a bullpen game because Ortiz is going on paid leave pending a league investigation. Odds haven’t really reacted. The Guardians have a good bullpen, but Ortiz would be a better option, and depending how late Cantillo found out about it, we might be seeing a pseudo-opener tasked with keeping one of the best lineups in baseball on a night the wind is drifting out.

Pick: Chicago to win –136. 8.69 units to win 6.39. Cantillo and Horton must start.

I am only roughly 90% confident in these numbers. At some point we’ll get that Google Sheet up which tracks all our bets this year.

2025–26: –407.05 units (started with 1,000-unit bankroll)

2025–26: –7% average ROI (weighted by unit; sample size: 444 single-game markets plus three completed futures portfolios)

Pre-2025: 0% average ROI (worse when limited to only sports)

Units taken from best odds we can find at major sportsbooks available to most Americans.
