Today’s Best Bet: Sunday, January 23rd

Editor’s Note: For a little more than three years now, Joe has been publishing picks here and back at All Things NIT, our former site. Overall, the results have been positive, with an average return on investment, per pick, of 0.5% when weighting by confidence (1 for low, 2 for medium, 3 for high) across 1,985 published picks, not including bets that remain pending, like futures. 0.5% doesn’t sound amazing, but relative to what else you get on the internet?

Use these picks at your own risk. Only you are responsible for any money you lose, and you should not bet more than you can afford to lose. If you have a gambling problem, get help.

Lines for these come from the Vegas consensus or the closest approximation available at the time picks are written, unless otherwise noted. KenPom is heavily used in making college basketball picks.

Michigan @ Indiana

Michigan’s still got the talent. They’ve even still got some positive offensive results to show for themselves. But Indiana’s ability to protect the paint should neutralize those results, which are rather one-dimensional, and on the other end, the Wolverines aren’t going to put the pressure on Indiana’s guards that can often derail the Hoosier scoring effort.

We wrote earlier this month about the possibility Indiana wins the Big Ten regular season title. Entering today, KenPom has them projected to finish a game and a half back of Michigan State and Purdue, and with home games against Penn State and Illinois alternating with road trips to Maryland and Northwestern these next two and a half weeks, we could be entering a little Indiana moment here. Provided, of course, they take care of business today.

Pick: Indiana -4 (-113). Low confidence.
