The New Counting Crows Single, “Elevator Boots,” Feels Like Old Times

This blog isn’t a Counting Crows blog, and it isn’t named after the band (though you could probably trace the name back to A Murder of One if you sat us down for long enough).

That said, we love Counting Crows, and were excited to hear 1) that a new EP—Butter Miracle Suite One—is on its way on May 21st and 2) the first single from that EP, Elevator Boots. (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.)

It’s possible my initial reaction overestimates it, but after a few listens, it does feel like vintage Counting Crows. I liked Somewhere Under Wonderland, but this feels fuller than that, closer to Hard Candy and This Desert Life, with the vaguely western feel and the nostalgia of a night in late July and a couple first names and a few of those simple, soul-baring snippets (“I remember her. I don’t remember me.”) that I, at least, always love from Adam Duritz.

Here it is. Enjoy.
