Iowa State Pulls Away from Jackson State—Three Thoughts

1. Solomon Young got the ball.

It was Young’s highest-usage game since South Dakota State, with the big man turning 14 attempts into 18 points. This keyed an effort much less three-reliant than previous games, something we’d imagine is a positive trend.

2. The turnovers did not stop.

19 of ‘em. Yikes. Among power conference teams, only Kentucky has a higher turnover rate now than the Cyclones, and this isn’t a time when it’s good to be behind only Kentucky in something.

3. Overall, not the best day.

It was a good defensive effort, but Jackson State’s woeful on the offensive end. For Iowa State offensively, Young was the lone bright spot. Otherwise, it was a pretty rough day trying to score, though again, it seemed like the idea may have been in the right place (more of an effort was made to get to the hoop).

Still, got the win, and now there’s one more buy game before returning to the Big 12 meat grinder. One more chance to try things out before Baylor comes to Ames and tries to do Baylor things to the Big 12 bottomfeeder.

We’ll see where it all goes.
