The Reaction:
Just what we wanted to see.
There’s not a lot else to say. Brock Purdy bounced back. The offensive line finally wasn’t an active problem. The defense played well, as has been its custom. Good things all around in the 48-3 Cyclone victory in Vegas.
The Big Picture:
This doesn’t change much for Iowa State in terms of who we think they are. They’re a solid team with an offense prone to bouts of underperforming, and we hope they’ll get better as the year goes on.
Relevant Results:
West Virginia beat Virginia Tech, Kansas State beat Nevada, and Oklahoma State beat Boise State in a nice nonconference week for the Big 12. Oklahoma struggled to put away Nebraska, and while the Sooners did hold the Huskers off, it was a glimmer that Oklahoma—who’s now struggled to put away two of its first three opponents, none of whom have been juggernauts—may not be as good as advertised, and the league may therefore be that much more open.
Next Week:
Big 12 play starts for the Cyclones, as they head to Waco to play a 3-0 Baylor team who’s beaten Texas State, Texas Southern, and Kansas so far.
