Depleted Iowa State Gets Pummeled by Oklahoma State—Three Thoughts

1. Hope everyone recovers quickly.

Iowa State had seven players out, and while Xavier Foster’s absence was due to the foot injury, the other six were presumably due to the coronavirus. Only eight players suited up. Only one of them was over 6’6”. He—George Conditt—got in foul trouble, because how could you not get in foul trouble against Oklahoma State as the only big man playing against them, and only managed sixteen minutes. We hope everyone recovers quickly because of their health, first and foremost, but what a task with which the rest of the roster was saddled, and may be saddled again this weekend.

2. Jaden Walker played pretty well.

Productivity-wise, the freshman, playing his first significant minutes of the year (we aren’t counting the Jackson State game), grabbed three steals and blocked two shots while scoring eight on six shots from the floor. He only turned the ball over once, too. So that’s a positive development.

3. Probably should’ve bet on this.

The line was implying Iowa State wasn’t going to be missing anyone, and that was improbable. Hope got the best of me. And, you know, the fear of breaking a hiatus only to lose.
