Clemson Escaped and Nothing Else Happened

It’s dubious how much a Clemson loss would have affected their playoff standing given the circumstances, but the victory is obviously better than the alternative. And such was the story yesterday in college football:

  • Clemson escaped.
  • Ohio State and Alabama held serve.
  • The four intriguing Group of Five teams (Cincinnati, BYU, Boise State, and Coastal Carolina, in order) all won.
  • Texas A&M made a case for themselves as a contender for the SEC Runner-Up position.
  • UNC bowed out of ACC relevance.
  • Michigan bowed out of being taken seriously.
  • The Big 12 bowed out of their hopes of having an undefeated champion.

Another week’s down, and little has changed beyond the hardening of the top three. Next week, the Pac-12 begins play and Notre Dame gets its shot as the race for the fourth spot heats up. But for now, there’s little to say, because yesterday, there was little to see.
