An Update on Our Predictive Models

With college basketball nearly over, we’re regrouping, and that means revisiting some of our models. As we’ve mentioned before, we’ve worked on models for the NHL and NASCAR. We set those aside when basketball heated up, but we began revisiting them last week. Here’s the update on those and the rest, for those interested:

NHL

The Stanley Cup Playoffs are more than a month away, still, and we think we’re rather close on this one. Look for updates the rest of this week and a finished product hopefully by the end of the month.

NASCAR

Once the NHL model is done, we’ll turn back to NASCAR. This one’s rather time-intensive, as we’ll be calculating correlations across things like tracks and timing, but we’re hoping to have it done before summer hits.

Formula 1/IndyCar

If the NASCAR model turns out strong enough, we’ll try the same method on F1 and IndyCar. In an ideal world, we’ll have all three motorsport models done in time for the Indy 500, but don’t hold your breath on that.

College Football

Finally, on the horizon looms next fall’s college sports. While we’d like to expand beyond just football and men’s basketball (into volleyball, soccer, baseball, softball, etc.), getting the models we do have built out stronger, with more features, is going to be the immediate priority either once we have the NHL and motorsport models up and running. Or, once summer rolls around.
